Where music brings the world thogether

Combining education and music to reduce inequalities in access to music

A sustainable development aid model

Building lasting cultural exchange

Too many instruments gather dust after brief use, while others never sell or need minor repairs. La Mi Sol partners with music-industry distributors, luthier workshops, and manufacturers to give these instruments new life.

We coordinate shipments to regions where economic barriers prevent access to music education and practice.

Each One Teach One

Music groups and individuals access instruments and equipment free of charge through La Mi Sol. Our academies are spaces where musicians learn, practice, and enjoy making music together, whether for personal fulfillment or future performances.

We provide free universal music education by connecting artists in a give-and-take network. The exchange is straightforward: experienced musicians who practice at La Mi Sol academies commit equal time to teaching: two hours of practice, two hours of instruction.

Our initiatives

AJEND

The Association of Young People Committed to Development (AJEND) is a volunteer-based nonprofit dedicated to solidarity. Located in Kpalimé, Togo, AJEND welcomes international volunteers for community development missions.

AJEND and La Mi Sol partner to break down barriers to music education: La Mi Sol mobilizes donors in Europe while AJEND empowers artists in Togo.

In 2022, AJEND received the first La Mi Sol instrument container, established the first solidarity academy, and built a musician network offering free, permanent music instruction to aspiring learners.

TOGO

Aristide Kodjovi - Togo music center director

« The creation of the Academy in Kpalimé has allowed experienced musicians to have access to a practice space and quality instruments. The center also trains beginners and conducts musical-awakening campaigns in schools to uncover hidden talents!

Several music groups benefit thanks to the academy from a rehearsal space, some of them rehearse for more than 3 hours on weekday evenings. On weekends, the center is animated by musicians who come to train themselves and transmit their passion. »

CAMEROON

ASCA

Angel's Sports and Cultural Association was founded by passionate musicians driven by the desire to perfect their craft and develop collaborative musical projects. Based in Yaoundé and Douala, the organization shares knowledge and equipment with youth in working-class neighborhoods, creating spaces that foster learning and cross-cultural exchange.

Convinced of music's positive impact on human psychology, through harmony, discipline, and dedication, our ambition with La Mi Sol is not only to develop better musicians but also to support the personal growth of young learners.

TESTIMONY

Lex Nfon - Cameroun music center director

«The music center offers courses for all levels in Yaoundé. It proposes partnerships with public primary schools and with the parents of children, as well as musical awakening activities in music centers: there is no age to learn music!

After evaluation of students, a pedagogical work program is conceived and proposed by combining theory and practice. At the end of each teaching period, an individual and/or collective presentation is organized and offers a first-stage performance to young adolescents.»

EGYPT

ENROOT

In many public schools, arts programs are squeezed out, and teachers lack adequate resources. Yet music demonstrably builds self-confidence, teamwork, concentration, and well-being while offering students meaningful extracurricular opportunities.

Budget cuts have left instruments in disrepair, and accessible spaces where young people can express themselves freely, particularly girls, refugees, and students with disabilities, are few and far between.

The ENROOT Foundation supports schools in Cairo's suburbs by transforming underutilized rooms into inclusive "Music Hubs."

TESTIMONY

Abdelrahman Khaled  - Country Director, La Mi Sol Egypt

«Music vibrates beyond sound; it liberates, connects, and repairs the self. By nurturing access to music and the arts, we empower individuals and communities to express themselves, engage in social dialogue, and rebuild human connection through culture.»

Support for instumental education

In France, through Tous à la Musique programs, we support efforts to democratize music access for young people. For over 10 years, Tous à la Musique has provided students at partner middle schools with an educational environment where any young person can begin or continue learning to sing or play an instrument.

UNICEF

Internationally, we partner with UNICEF Cameroon's "I am music" program to create dozens of learning hubs, engines of development and social transformation. The program employs an innovative methodology designed to promote the highest values: solidarity, harmony, self-esteem, and self-confidence.

About us

A word from the founder

«I believe that teaching yourself music is not just about learning notes, it's about discovering who you are. I created La Mi Sol to share my passion for music and ensure that all children, regardless of where they’re born, have the same chance to begin their musical journey.»

Featured guest on RFI's '8 Billion Neighbors'

On December 3, 2025, we were invited to join RFI's "8 Billion Neighbors" program.

The episode examined why making music accessible to all matters and the social and economic barriers that prevent equal access to music education. We discussed music's positive effects on well-being and cognitive development, and spotlighted inspiring programs like El Sistema and the Philharmonie de Paris's Démos project, both of which lend instruments to children to foster collective music-making.

Martin Hochart, founder and president of La Mi Sol, joined Olga Pasquier (Tous à la Musique) to share his vision for breaking down barriers to music and celebrating diversity in both students and musical styles.
